THERAPY FOR THE UNEXPECTED

My name is Jennifer Cox, I’m a registered associate marriage and family therapist in California. At JCox Therapy I offer telehealth psychotherapy for adults, teens, and couples throughout California.

I work with people who are outwardly doing well, yet feel anxious, numb, overwhelmed, or quietly unmoored on the inside — particularly when life hasn’t unfolded as expected, or during transitions that bring up loss, uncertainty, and deeper questions of meaning.

When Anxiety or Depression Is Asking for Attention

Much of the anxiety and distress I see in clients is not simply about stress or symptoms, but about deeper questions — about direction, identity, belonging, and how to live when certainty feels out of reach. For many people, anxiety and depression emerge when life hasn’t unfolded as expected, when familiar roles or narratives no longer fit, or when there is a quiet sense of loss that doesn’t have a clear name.

Therapy can become a space to slow down with these questions, make meaning of what’s happening, and find ways of moving forward that feel more aligned and self-trusting.

A Grounded, Trauma-Informed Approach

My work is based in a trauma-informed, mindfulness-based, and existential approach. I’m attentive not only to experiences like anxiety, but to the underlying questions they often carry — about meaning, identity, choice, and how to live with uncertainty. Alongside exploration and reflection, I offer practical tools to help people relate differently to anxiety, regulate their nervous system, and navigate difficult internal states with more steadiness and choice. We work at a steady, respectful pace, paying attention to how experiences are held in both the mind and body, and to what may be asking for understanding rather than forcing change.

This Work May Be Supportive If You

Are outwardly doing well, but are struggling internally. This work is especially helpful for people who live with ongoing anxiety, overthinking, or internal vigilance and for those struggling with the weight or numbness of depression.

Many of the people I work with also identify as neurodivergent, highly sensitive, or deeply reflective, and have learned to function outwardly while carrying significant internal strain. Therapy with me can offer a space where less masking is required, and where anxiety is approached with nuance rather than judgment.

Working Together

I offer individual psychotherapy via telehealth for adults located in California. Sessions are 50 minutes, and my practice is private pay. I am happy to provide superbills for clients who wish to seek out-of-network reimbursement.

If you’re considering working together, the next step is to reach out and schedule a brief consultation. This is an opportunity to share what’s bringing you here and to see whether working together feels like a good fit.

Get in Touch

If you’d like to get in touch, you’re welcome to set up an initial consult by reaching out.

I currently offer telehealth sessions for adults in California and have limited availability. I aim to respond thoughtfully and will be in touch as soon as I’m able.

You don’t need to have the right words — just a sense that something is asking for attention.
